Cartier Isomorphism for Toric Varieties

is an isomorphism. Here F : X −→ X denotes the Frobenius morphism on X and H denotes the a cohomology sheaf of F∗Ω•X . If the variety is not smooth, not much is known about the properties of the Cartier operator and the poor behaviour of the deRham complex in this case makes its study difficult. If one substitutes the deRham complex with the Zariski-deRham complex the situation is better. For e...

The Isomorphism Testing for Directly Representable Varieties

• Abelian groups with nx = 0, n > 0, • Boolean algebras, • Rings with x = x, m > 1, • Modules over a finite semisimple ring. An isomorphism testing problem for a class K of structures (K–Iso) is to determine the exact computational complexity of the following problem: INSTANCE: Two finite structures from K. QUESTION: Is there an isomorphism between them ? Received May 14, 1997 Research supporte...

Homeomorphism of 2-Complexes is Equivalent to Graph Isomorphism

Whittlesey 12,13,14] gave a criterion which decides when two nite 2-dimensional complexes are homeomorphic. We show that graph isomorphism can be reduced eeciently to 2-complex homeomorphism, and that Whittlesey's criterion can be reduced eeciently to graph isomorphism. Therefore graph isomorphism and 2-complex homeomorphism are polynomial-time equivalent.

Elementary equivalence versus Isomorphism

1) The isomorphy type of a finite field K is given by its cardinality |K|, i.e., if K and L are such fields, then K ∼= L iff |K| = |L|. 1) The isomorphy type of an algebraically closed field K is determined by two invariants: (i) Absolute transcendence degree td(K), (ii) The characteristic p = char(K) ≥ 0. In other words, if K and L are algebraically closed fields, then K ∼= L iff td(K) = td(L)...

A Homeomorphism Invariant for Substitution

We derive a homeomorphism invariant for those tiling spaces which are made by rather general substitution rules on polygonal tiles, including those tilings, like the pinwheel, which contain tiles in infinitely many orientations. The invariant is a quotient of Čech cohomology, is easily computed directly from the substitution rule, and distinguishes many examples, including most pinwheel-like ti...
